Part 6

Friends

Chapter 21

The Librarian

I have a theory that there’s a little librarian living in the back of my brain (and everyone else’s brains) who fetches memories for me.

If the memory is easy to find, the Librarian finds it and returns it quickly, if not instantly.

On the other hand, if the memory had long ago been bubble-wrapped, put in a box, then stored somewhere along with millions of other memories deep down inside the dark basement that sits at the back of your brain . . . the Librarian has some serious digging to do, so it takes a lot longer.

It took my Librarian a day and a half to remember where I’d heard the word ‘Agadir’ before.

My wife and I spent a week in Agadir on a sun-filled vacation shortly after we got married. They had nice olives. I got food poisoning. I don’t know if the two were related. No one ever mentioned that WW1 almost started there.

When I told my wife this, she told me she could’ve told me that if I’d asked her.

The librarian has 3 friends. They work together to solve problems.

I’ll introduce them to you shortly.

But, before I introduce you to them, I need to reacquaint you with 5 friends from the 1990s.
